James Edwin “Jimmy” Usher (1943–2019) lived a life defined by faith, service, and the belief that God can take small beginnings and multiply them into something lasting.
In 2009, after more than fifty years of preaching and ministering around the world, Jimmy followed the Spirit’s prompting to start Prayer Plan Missions to Honduras. With no fundraising campaigns or borrowed money, he simply prayed, shared the needs he encountered, and trusted God to stir people’s hearts. Out of that step of faith grew a ministry that continues to transform lives among some of Honduras’ most marginalized communities. Jimmy saw it not as his achievement but as the Spirit’s work—symbolized by the ministry’s “mascot,” the wild goose, a Celtic emblem of the unpredictable leading of God.
Honduras became Jimmy’s second home. He made countless trips there, building friendships, encouraging believers, and showing by his life that prayer, humility, and obedience could accomplish more than human plans ever could. Even in his final sermon, preached just weeks before his passing, Jimmy’s message was clear: “Do not despise the day of small beginnings.”

Though he was a pastor, preacher, and world traveler, Jimmy never cared for titles. He wanted only to be called “Brother Jimmy,” a reminder that ministry was not about status but about service. His legacy lives on not just in the churches he led, the sermons he preached, or the book he began writing on faith, but in the enduring work of Prayer Plan Missions—a testament to the truth that small seeds of faith can bear eternal fruit.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Carol Lynne; his children Jeremy and Sonja; four grandchildren; siblings, nieces, and nephews; and many spiritual sons and daughters across the world. His family and friends continue to carry forward the mission that captured his heart: to follow the Spirit’s leading and love people in the name of Christ.
